Does God Tolerate Homosexuality?
by Rev. Jess Foglesong
Obviously due to the fact that God‘s government is based on Righteousness, Justice, Love and Perfection … the answer is -- No; and certainly no if we were within His kingdom living in the same sphere or plain. But at this moment of time, we are not. Technically we are still existing outside of his sphere, or “main camp.” But He allows us to follow along just outside of the “Big Top” (so to speak). And He allows this alternative existence because of the sacrifice of the Lamb; of His Son, Jesus: who is The Christ; our Mediator. We would be a lost bunch otherwise.
Therefore, does God tolerate homosexuality? Yes He does -- but only through the Mediator. It falls under the many inequities of sinful mankind. If one looks in the Old Testament: Genesis 6:5: … And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Therefore he made a decision to destroy the earth -- by water. Without hesitation He completely remade (restarted) mankind: through Noah and his family. To say the least, God does not tolerate “total” evil. He will and did step in to redirect the path of man.
Later, during the time of Abram (Abraham), a city called Sodom (Genesis 18:20 - 32; 19:1, 5 - 17) became so wicked that God sent two angels into the city to rescue Lot, the brother of Abram, and his entire clan. After which the cities -- Sodom and Gomorrah -- were destroyed by searing fire. Homosexuality was rampant.
His plan all along was to generate a Redeemer; and He needed time on earth. And when He saw that things were going in the wrong direction -- he interceded.
God is pure; He is divine; He is All-Righteous. His Character is unchangeable, un-wavering. His government is based on Love and Justice.
He created mankind because He wanted to … He had the desire to have a relationship with beings that could interact with him; to share the same realm or sphere. A pure and righteous domain.
Obviously a homosexual way of life would be unknown and foreign to such existence. Life within the Kingdom of God (Isaiah 65:25) is a place beyond comprehension. Total provision is assured. Justice and Righteousness is an absolute. Love is the norm.
On the other hand, here on earth, it is a different story. Life -- although somewhat organized and harmonious -- is far from perfect. Mankind has come a long way since the beginning of civilization. Certainly we are an imperfect bunch; fragmented throughout; taking the side of evil in most cases. We have fallen at times in history, so low, that God had to step in to change directions; in order to assure the lineage of a sacrificial lamb, a servant, a leader, co-saviour, a redeemer (Isaiah: 9:5,6; 42:1-25; 49:7; 52:13; 53:7,11,13) -- the Son of God.
Our life is complex, full of problems and intricacies: including the situation of homosexuality. It has been a characteristic of mankind from the beginning. It is not the norm in human behavior. It is an anomaly of nature. It is part of the many Sins of a fragmented and flawed mankind. It will not be part of the realm of Heaven -- the New Jerusalem (Isaiah 65:17). God allows it to dwell here on earth, because He respects man’s ‘freewill’ and choices.
God has solved the problem of mankind’s inequities (Isaiah 59:2,9,14, 20), in the name of the Christ -- Son of God. God had to find a way to wash away all of our sins through the process of a sacrificial lamb. The Christ is God’s love and grace in full color. God has taken the time to come to earth, to be with us, to be like us, and to die like us, in order to fulfill the law: of Justice and Righteousness.
And so, I do hope we understand God’s position; God’s character. He is the Creator and Ruler of the Universe. He is our maker! He exist in the Positive, we exist in the negative. He is Supreme and is fully in Charge of all. We should never forget that.
His grace and love assures that we have a place in His house, in His Kingdom. The day will come when His government -- based on love -- will be ushered in. Are you ready? No matter what your orientation … Believe in Him … have faith in Him. He welcomes you as you are ... simply accept His invitation!
God’s best is always for you -- today!
